Van Dams Cafe Information
We needed an informal venue to hear an overseas guest chatting informally with a crowd of about 70 people: with coffee and eats available, and the "feel" of something intimate and accessible all round. This turned out o be perfect. Not only was the parking absolutely unbelievably easy (a huge carpark just behind the shop) but people/traffic flow worked smoothly, without hiccoughs. Our guest (author Brian MacLaren) was wowed by the idea of sitting on a bar stool chatting: we brought in an amp/mike set up and the evening was a huge success. Staff were superb: unobtrusively efficient and friendly, the food was different and interesting (Dutch in origin, with kiwi twists - my words!) and the coffee passed the stringent tests of my caffeinator friends with flying colours. We'll be back...
