This was the worst experience we have ever had in a restaurant! Booked here 3 weeks in advance for Teppanyaki to celebrate a special occasion, the booking was confirmed prior. We arrived on time only to be told the Teppanyaki table was still occupied by the previous booking, we were ushered to a cold stark room to wait. After sometime we were told that the other group were now drinking at the table and did not want to leave…we asked to speak to the manager but they were “to busy” to speak to us, another 3 groups were put in the room with us – all had bookings and were told the same story as us, clearly the restaurant were taking bookings they had no room for. We left without eating or being apologized to, we couldn’t find another table anywhere so we celebrated the occasion at the pub with a pizza. Do not waste your time with this restaurant.
Ace Wasabi restaurant was recommended by a friend, unfortunately, it's the WORST japanese restaurant we've ever been to and we LOVE japanese food. Ordered Salmon sushi knowing that NZ has one of the best salmons in the world. They gave us salmon that was not fresh, claimed it was delivered that morning. However we knew that the taste changed due to chilling process (we are in the food business too). We complained to the manager and she immediately replied "what? you want discount?" Pleeeease we want to be served good food not discounts??? since we were a big group, we did not keep track of the food we ordered so whatever was placed on the table we simply ate it. As we were eating, the manager (owner's wife) came to our table and said that the waiter served us the wrong dishes, she DID NOT BOTHER TO APOLOGIZE, she simply took the plates from the table!!!! Never had we seen such rudeness coming from a japanese. our japanese friends could not believe this attitude. Asked for more tea and it never came. We were all fed up with the service and the restaurant wasn't even full so we asked for the bill even if the food did not completely arrive yet since it took soooo looong. Manager never apologized. Paid 160 for 155 bill. She never gave back the change!!! What does this tell you?? - it's all about the money!!If you want good japanese food and you're in Lake Tekapo try KOHAN. Salmon dishes are all fresh.. paid close to 200 for 4 pax..simply good food.
Ace Wasabi Japanese Restaurant is now located at the Charlotte Jane Boutique Hotel along Papanui Road in Christchurch. The restaurant is in a beautiful setting in the heart of Merivale.
Its original restaurant opposite the casino has been severely damaged by the earthquake.
Since it's a Friday, my friend and I decided to have lunch at Ace Wasabi. What can I say? They did not disappoint!
From the warm greeting upon our arrival by their very elegant Japanese maitre d' (who is also I think one of the owners) to the courteous and attentive staff. Loved that they remembered me from my first visit a few weeks back.
Food was to die for! We ordered their deluxe lunch combo set. I had servings of miso soup, rice, sashimi, mixed tempura, cold salad, beef teppanyaki all cooked to perfection at great value for money. It only cost me $24.
Their lunch menu offers great value for money. You can order a combo for as low as $12!
When you go visit, don't forget to order their iced plum tea or the sangria. Perfect complement to our meal.
