So how was Moscow?

Kate

Moscow was fast and furious, flying half-way round the world for two days of Michael Bay and his Transformers taking over Red Square! It was crazy and cool, and pretty fascinating watching Hollywood do their thing in Russia. The crowds went crazy for the new Megan Fox - Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and given the see-through skirt it wasnt hard to see why.

Michael Bay has a reputation for being... well... a little uptight. Was he in person?

Kate

I interviewed Bay for the original Transformers film, which I loved, and which he was enormously proud of and excited about at the time. He had quite literally just finishing editing the film the day before he screened it for the very first time to media in Sydney and the day after he was visibly relaxed and stoked with the reaction to the film. He was also very open and approachable. This time around around though, off the back of the critical drubbing his second Transformers got, he was far less chilled! In fact, he cancelled all his afternoon 1:1 interviews including mine and Channel 4 UK! Both Shia and Rosie were effusive in their praise for Bay however (perhaps both learning from Megan Fox's mistakes!) saying he worked them hard, but they admired him and gave as good as they got.
Moving beyond talking robots, this year's Film Festival line-up has been announced. What's caught your eye?

Kate

Sooooo much this year - where to start?! Awesomely, there are three of my favourite films from this year's Cannes Film Festival in the line-up (in fact I think this fest has more Cannes alumni than any other NZ fest to date). Must-sees on the big screen are Cannes big-hitters - Lars Von Trier's Melancholia and Terrence Malick's Tree of Life . I loved the former more than the latter, but of course Malick's outing won the Palme Dór. Another Cannes winner also made the cut for NZ and which got alot of love in France- the Dardennes Brothers' Grand Prix co-winner The Kid with a Bike .
Tree of Life stars Brad Pitt. Must see or overblown?

Kate

It's one of the films I suspect hardcore film lovers will want to see - if only to have an opinion! It certainly divided the Cannes audiences, greeted with both boos and cheers in the first screening I saw. Its also one that really really must be seen on the Big Screen and having this opportunity to see it at The Civic should not be ignored! Some of the sequences Malick has crafted are simply extraordinary.
